About ISJB
Instituo Sao Joa de Brito strives to prepare knowledgeable, highly skilled and ethical young professionals who can provide leadership in East Timorese education, address the country’s current educational priorities, and serve in the areas where the need is greatest. The institute forms part of the Society of Jesus’ (Jesuits) commitment to education in Timor-Leste. The group is coordinated and mentored by Fr Sacha Bermudez-Goldman SJ, who is currently a member of the ISJB staff. Read more

Friends of East -Timorolw
The OLW Friends of Timor-Leste group emerged in August 2025 as a volunteer initiative supporting the parish’s involvement with the Instituto São João de Brito (ISJB), a teacher-training institution in Timor-Leste.

Faith based programs include:
A. Retreats, recollection days, faith-formation programs; everyone at the College goes on retreat every , year (including teachers); we also offer recollection days and a midday meal to all students.
B. Service Learning Program where Fourth Year students spend a week of immersion in marginalised communities (costs include transport, food they bring to donate to the communities, etc.)
C. Laudato Si' Week, the budget for is a modest $900 (for speakers, field trips, prizes for competitions, etc).
D. Vocations Week: which we are planning on starting this year (2026), with a view to develop this topic as a way of helping students discern their future.
E. Activities and speakers: for Mental Health Week.
F. Social Programs: for example, Materials for helping repair a house for really poor families.
