roman missalWe have the ordinary of the Mass and the cards and booklets to assist you in negotiating it. The Missal with the Collect prayers is still in the developmental phase. The suppliers of the Missal have their fingers crossed that it will be with us by Advent.

So for a while we will be using two missals. The publishers have their fingers crossed that we will have the Missals on the due date!

Let us remember that the music of the Mass is an important part of the liturgical fare. Musicians will be workshopping one Mass in the next couple of months.

The NEW MISSAL is coming

New Words - A Deeper Meaning

Our Parishes will launch into the new Missal within the given time frame by the Sydney Archdiocese, namely from Pentecost Sunday, 11th & 12th June 2011 and Advent in November.

To view the TIME PLAN for the introduction of the New Missal click here.

In summary we intend to:

  • Choose one musical setting. e.g. The Gloria and Holy Holy etc. This setting is likely to be, Christopher Willcock SJ, a recognised Australian Jesuit composer. We will begin learning this from Pentecost Sunday.
  • We will stagger the introduction of the responses for the parts we do not sing.
For example the new response to "The Lord be with you" will be "And with your Spirit" will be introduced from Pentecost Sunday as well as The Lord Have Mercy (Kyrie), Holy, Holy (Sanctus), Amen, Lamb of God (Agnus Dei) and the first response of The Mystery Of Faith, formerly known as the Memorial Acclamation.
  • We will hold Information evenings. This is meant to give parishioners an opportunity to understand the catechesis behind the responses.
  • Regular updates on the Bulletin and Parish Web Site.
  • Booklets and other printed responses with responses will be available for unsung masses.
  • Where the screens are used the responses will appear on the screen for everyone to follow.

There is available to all who are interested in studying the "new missal" a video presentation of a "New Translation for a New Roman Missal" (ver.3) which includes the revised text as updated on the USCCB website as of August 20, 2010.

The website is www.romanmissal.us

This presentation was sent to the clergy of Sydney at the end of last year by Cardinal Pell.  So it has the stamp of approval by our Cardinal.  This does not mean that it won't be changed between now and the beginning of Advent, 2011.

The presentation is provided to anyone who would like to study the proposed changes.
