There are two sides to the work of the Society:

First, to endeavour to strengthen our members' faith by undertaking works of charity whenever, wherever and in whatever form might be desirable,

and second, to offer those, who may be in need of help, a hand up and not just a hand out.

The Society relies on three fundamentals:

- The first is people to help. In the financial year just ended the three Conferences attached to Our Lady of the
Way Churches helped over 600 people who live in nearby suburbs. So it can be concluded there is an
ongoing need for the Society‟s services in our area.

- The second is members. There is always work for new members.

- The third is funding. The Society‟s work relies heavily on donations.

Every July the St. Vincent de Paul Conferences attached to each of the Churches in the Parish make an appeal for funds to continue their work with the poor who live in the surrounding suburbs. The donations received last year have been used effectively.

In the period since the beginning of July last year to the end of February this year all three Conferences have continued to provide a range of assistance in the respective locations in which they operate. For example, Conference members make visits to the homes of people who request help, provide food cards and distribute utility payment vouchers. The three Conferences have made over 275 such calls and provided assistance in excess of $18,000 for food, along with clothing, furniture, manchester etc. Members and volunteers
of the St. Mary's Conference have also picked up and distributed bread and meals provided by the Mater hospital and a bakery in Mosman.

All Conferences are very grateful for the donations which were provided last year and can guarantee the money will continue to be used wisely and directed to people in real need.
