The Legion of Mary
I first joined The Legion of Mary one Tuesday evening after Benediction at St Michael's Church Lane Cove and was warmly welcomed to the meeting consisting of 2 ladies. There had been an appeal for more members at the previous Sunday Masses. They were going to close down after many years. I thought I would come to a few meetings. Soon several more people started coming. That was 34 years ago, the last 22 years of which I have been a member of St Mary's North Sydney Praesidium.
One of the reasons I was attracted to the Legion of Mary was being reminded that, as Catholics, indeed as Christians, we must be apostolic and that the Legion of Mary provided an excellent way of doing that. In the Legion we partake in the Church's evangelizing work, whether doorknocking, catechesis or visits to those who are not well or not so active.
At any rate, over the years, being a member of the Legion, although at times challenging, has been a very rewarding and offered so much spiritual help as well as friendship.
