carmel pilcher

I resisted attending Sr Carmel Pilcher's lecture thinking it would be about the new changes in the Mass and felt a further explanation a waste of time, but the Spirit moved in and to my surprise the well prepared interesting presenter opened my heart to a deeper understanding of the Eucharist

Without any pressure Carmel moved the group to the front seats (who has the ability as well as success in a Church!) and then helped us "unlearn" some of the ingrained pre Vatican II teachings.

She drew the analogy off Mass as with theatre.  The involvement of the priest or presider and the many ministers acting as facilitators, even to the car park attendant who gives a word of welcome.  The congregation as actors, but what caused me to think differently was the idea that "God is the Audience".

The only reference to the new wording in the Mass were the ones before the preface.

IT IS RIGHT AND JUST somehow this change speaks more directly to the ' God of the audience.'

In the Vatican Documents I read where: Par 225

"Christ the Lord has left to the Church, a testament of his immense love. This wonderful gift of the Eucharist, which is the greatest gift of all demands that such an important mystery should be increasingly better known and its saving power more fully shared."

Carmel has given me new insights and my hope is that further opportunities will be given for her return to the Parish so that many more can have the opportunity from her years of study of the liturgy.
