Romero tells the true story of Latin America’s best-known and most revered modern martyr, Oscar Romero.  Romero becomes an archbishop at a time when El Salvador is torn apart by violence and injustice. El Salvadoran military forces — aided and equipped by the United States as a defence against Communism — oppose the country’s Marxist guerrilla resistance. However, much of what is done in the name of "fighting Communists" is really just repressing the poor, or anyone who speaks out on their behalf. This excellent drama depicts the last three years in the life of the Salvadoran bishop who became archbishop in 1977 and was assassinated on March 24, 1980.
